Policy

Meet your State Legislator

KAS is setting up in-district meetings between member scientists and your local state legislator. These are opportunities to familiarize legislators with the valuable STEM education and research that our members do, and let them know that KAS members can be resources for them when STEM topics come up in Frankfort.  We'll coach you and accompany you!  Let us know if you would be interested.

Science Policy Committee Welcomes You!

The Science Policy committee will meet Wednesday, August 12 at 12:30pm ET on Zoom. All are welcome. Email policy@kyscience.org for the zoom link or more information, and Follow our Policy work at the KAS website.

Thank you Austin McMasters

Austin is stepping down from the Science Policy Specialist role to focus on finishing his graduate work. We hope he's gotten the science policy bug, though, and will stay around on our Policy team.

Shadowing a Scientist experience connects classroom educators with real-world climate research

On July 23, two Kentucky educators, Courtney Stronczek and Jenny Vinson, had the opportunity to step into the work of climate scientists through the KAS’s Shadowing a Scientist program. Hosted at Western Kentucky University, the experience introduced participants to the Kentucky Climate Center, the Climate Library of the Commonwealth of Kentucky (CLoCK), and the Kentucky Mesonet, giving them a firsthand look at how weather and climate data are collected, preserved, visualized, and applied across the Commonwealth.
