KAS to offer Science Advocates Workshops

Rob Weber

Spread the word! KAS’s popular Science Advocacy Workshops are once again being offered.

Designed for both undergraduate and graduate students, these workshops aim to empower participants with essential advocacy skills crucial for amplifying the science community's voice in shaping public policy. Though the workshops are tailored for students, all KAS members are welcome to gain insights about advocating for science and following issues throughout the Kentucky General Assembly’s 2024 session.

The workshops will take place on Jan. 19 and Feb. 9, streamed live via Zoom from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. ET. Click here to register for free.

The workshops are being offered in collaboration with UK’s Kentucky Advocates for Science Policy and Research (KASPR), UofL’s Science Policy and Outreach Group (SPOG), and the Kentucky Student Environmental Coalition. Together, we aim to share info on important science-related legislation set for discussion in the state legislature’s current session.

The workshops will feature seasoned leaders providing an in-depth overview of relevant legislation, alongside firsthand experiences and advice from students who have successfully engaged in advocacy efforts. Moreover, policy experts and state lawmakers will share their insights and knowledge.

Upon completion of both workshops, each participant will receive certification as a “Kentucky Science Advocate.”
