Environmental justice among the issues spotlighted at advocacy workshop

Rob Weber

The workshops were offered by KAS in collaboration with UK’s Kentucky Advocates for Science Policy and Research (KASPR), UofL’s Science Policy and Outreach Group (SPOG), and the Kentucky Student Environmental Coalition.

Speakers at the Feb. 17 session included: Rep. Nima Kulkarni of Louisville, who spoke about an upcoming PFAS Awareness Day; Dr. Monica Unseld, a KAS member and founder of Until Justice Data Systems, who spoke about her environmental justice work; Cassie Woolley of SPOG, who spoke about encouraging science policy engagement; Kat Smith of the Kentucky Student Environmental Coalition, who talked about her group’s efforts to prevent a natural gas pipeline from being built through Bernheim Forest in Bullitt County; and Jeremy Davis of KASPR, who presented materials his group created to advocate for science policy issues.

Recordings of both workshops are available for viewing on YouTube (and below).
